WTF is GOAT mode on a Dodge? That's Ford's Goes Over Any Terrain
Oops, I meant TURTLE MODE
“Turtle Mode” typically refers to a low-power or “limp” mode that activates when the vehicle’s battery is critically low or when the system detects a fault, significantly reducing performance to conserve energy or protect the vehicle’s components.

Welcome @gawain! Have you tried recreating the profiles? Or does the issue still happen?
I suspect I have to start over completely with all profiles wiped out because you can't delete a profile unless you first set that profile as active. And...after you delete a profile, the settings don't reset to factory default -- they just remain the same as the last set profile.

Unexpected software update!

On computers, phones and most things, when there is a software update available, with variability, the device usually asks if it can update immediately or wait for the evening. Managed devices (for work or school) follow policies that an organization comes up with for updates, and I'm sure most of us have been stuck at our computer waiting for an update happens at a lousy time. Sometimes if the software provider deems an issue extremely critical, it can push an update to our devices and will happen immediately, without our say in it: this is exceedingly rare, but it can happen.

Yesterday, after dropping off my kid at school, I climbed back in my car and was faced with my Daytona attempting a software update, and waited about 7 minutes for it to complete. No asking or anything! I found it to be a bit rude for it not to have asked to update first. Don't worry, I wasn't late, I just drove much faster to work to make up the time.

And then today my Daytona's Android system suffered its first crash, too! Happened shortly after startup: the radio that was playing paused and hung on a note and the display became totally unresponsive. Don't worry, I handled it with the classic IT Fix-It Special: I turned it off and on again!

I was wondering about how this would work. Now that you've done an update, does it show it as an "update history" item or something? Does it show you a list of changes? If you had been out of the car and missed it entirely, would you even know if happened?

I was asking my dealer about it and he had no idea. I connected my car to wifi, but otherwise have no idea if it's ever done an update w/out telling me (and there's not even a "Check for Updates" type of button).

Today, I tried for the first time a 125kw fast charging. When the charge started, I heard for a good 5 minutes popping noise under the car. Maybe It's just the metal expanding and contracting under the heat but i'm curious if you hear it too. I do not have this happen on my mach-e. Otherwise everything went well and I had no problems.

You're hearing contactors opening and closing as the battery is reconfigured for charging. This is absolutely normal.

Did you find a solution to having to manually turn the center screen on every time you turn the car on? One of my driver profiles has this issue, but a second driver profile seems to work fine.
I did find a solution and it was stupid.

It was in the Radio settings menu. I cant recall exactly what. But it was something about powering up the center screen on startup. It was off for me, and changing it to on fixed the issue.

It was stupidly hidden in that menu, which isn't in the rest of the settings. I had to search in the radio settings. Hope this helps!

If I'm not mistaken, it's in the individual driver profile settings.

When supercharging a Tesla in cold ambient temps, you can definitely get loud popping noises as the battery temps climb (confirmed by my buddy who called tech support afraid his car was damaged). It's not just contactors.. it's expansion popping. I have no idea if the Charger is the same as I haven't used a fast charger yet.

All four times I have DC fast charged my Charger, the sound of contactors opening and closing could be heard for the first few minutes. I've never heard any other sound other than the whirring of the cooling fans.

Making a thread for what I see as actual problems with the new car. These could be user error (I doubt it) and I will RTFM some more and post back if I am wrong.
  1. Resetting/lowering of regen levels (e-coasting). This is BAD to me. It affects how quickly the car slows down and if it changes drive to drive let alone DURING a drive without you touching the paddles, that is REALLY BAD. Yes, I can learn around it and it isn't random, it's when changing modes or starting the car. But still bad. Even more so for people coming from other EVs that don't do that.
  2. Climate default to OFF every vehicle start. I have to touch the "Auto/Eco" button turn turn it back on.
  3. Volumes keep resetting. You can set Volumes for maybe different things. Android Auto/ Google Maps keeps resetting to way too loud.

Minor issues not actual "Problems"
  1. When turning the Volume Knob, my knuckle frequently will touch the screen and hit the Nav button switching the display. Maybe a bigger knob, longer knob, delay on the button being active while turning the knob, USER TRAINING would resolve?
So far, all software issues, otherwise car seems solid to me.
A few days ago I finally got wrenched.

Ironically a few days before that I received a phone call from Free2Move, informing me I need to do an update on my battery pack control module.

I called my local dealer and they told me they didn't know anything about this, they are super busy and couldn't get to me for weeks, and maybe I should call around because they don't even have a charger at this location.

I called Free2move back and they assisted me in setting up an appointment at a local dealer who actually knew what this issue was.

I'll have an update after I drop my car off next week.

@DodgeCares Can you dig up any information on this? I'd email Free2Move Charge, but last time I did, it took 6 weeks for a reply. (no joke)

That’s interesting because that’s one of the error codes that popped up was about some sort of communication loss with the battery control module

I see you were traveling, when you got the “Wrench”, did you stop & turn off your vehicle & restart it? That seems to be the fix for a few issues with these vehicles. I have gotten the “Wrench” a few times sitting in my garage and turning my vehicle off, waiting a few minutes & turning it back on made it go away.

Sounds like an update to the battery pack control module should be a RECALL from
Dodge!
I am wondering why the Feds are not looking into this. Stellantis continuing to sell KNOWN defective vehicles to unsuspecting consumers.

Federal Trade Commission Act (FTC Act) – Section 5: Unfair or Deceptive Acts or Practices (UDAP)

  • Violation: Selling a defective product without disclosure or knowingly hiding defects can be considered fraud or a deceptive business practice.

Chris, If Dodge Cared, you would be proactive and contact your partner, Free2Move, on your own, to find out what the issue is and not rely on a customer to do it for you. Since these vehicles are so new, Dodge Dealers DO NOT have a clue about what is going on! Having to wait 2 or 3 weeks, without the vehicle, while the Dealer tries to figure out a solution is ridiculous, IMHO!

Maybe this is why:
While the exact number of FTC positions eliminated under the Trump administration has not been specified, these developments suggest a substantial reduction in the agency’s workforce, affecting its ability to fulfill its consumer protection and antitrust enforcement responsibilities.

I'm used to the banal explanations for the strange noises of my old ICE vehicles, and so when I got my Daytona it opened my life up to a whole new world of strange noises and their possible explanations! Phooey, thanks for demystifying some of these processes that still seem exotic to some of us.
