Sounds like a good comparison. My son in law had a M3P (brutally quick), not my cup of tea, but dang was it quick.
I actually considered a C8 instead of this Daytona! Nice car, very nice car. I was considering a 3LT in Riptide. Nothing else added on, basically same MSRP as my Daytona. (I think)
And yes, big fan of capacitive wheel.
Fully loaded 3LT, hardtop convertible in torch red w/black roof/nacelles! If I had sold my M3P for the Daytona, truthfully I'd be disappointed with it in several ways (charging time; range; weight/handling), but I didn't do that. I replaced the Tesla with the C8, and leased the Daytona as the most incredible winter car ever made (496HP, AWD, all season tires, heated seats/wheel, EV), all for less than the price of a Compass, so I'm a very, very happy camper!

That being said, I really do respect the hell out of what Dodge tried to do with this car. Unlike any Tesla, it has actual style (truly beautiful front and rear ends, IMO) and doesn't feel like an appliance. It has personality! While the interior on my R/T is base level, it also has real style that makes me smile compared to that minimalist crap. And GOD FORBID we have physical HVAC, power mirror switches and a real shifter! It's so refreshing!

Haters are gonna hate, and I get it why the V8 faithful are so angry and why the EV snobs are looking down their nose at the Daytona's price point, but I think it's pretty great, and hopefully Stellantis will work out the kinks over time.

That's a huge miss on what is a pretty basic feature on a premium priced car.
I had assumed it was because I have a base car. That's surprising to hear they don't have it at all. I went thru the car wash for the first time and the guys kept pointing at the side mirrors asking me to fold them in. When sign language failed, I finally had to roll down the window to explain to them I didn't have power mirrors and to do it manually. Obviously, they expected them to be power also!

Eco mode questions:
  1. Anyone know why Eco mode forcibly disables the paddle shift functionality for regen braking? Seems to me that if Eco mode is supposed to support extended range, then full regen would also be compatible with that, since the higher regen also sends more power back to the battery. Not clear to me why Dodge made this decision or, similar to lots of frustrations that others have, why they didn't at least make it an option that you can still toggle if you want to.
  2. Anyone know why Eco mode isn't available as a drive mode you can select from the buttons on the wheel?

It is probably because eco mode relies on coasting to get more distance. If you increase regen, you basically cannot coast - as soon as you let up on the pedal, regen kicks in and starts to slow you down.

OK, thanks - that makes sense.

Probably be an interesting experiment to see which is actually more beneficial to range; Eco mode with only level 1 regen, or auto mode with level 3 regen. I'm sure a lot depends on what kind of driving you're doing too.

I would think you can get better range by using full regen, but it would also require very precise pedal control. That's something the majority of drivers lack, and those drivers will likely get better range with eco mode enabled.

Ongoing argument/discussion on every EV site I've seen. If you drive the same, results will be the same. How you drive is what matters. On and off regen at relatively the same speeds wastes energy in the conversion losses. Coasting down a long hill at a higher speed instead of recapturing as much as practical using regen to maintain a slower speed is again, wasting energy. If you use the brake pedal or "e-coasting " (yes I HATE that term) the results are the same.

Coasting down a hill will result in better efficiency. Regen generates heat both in the EDMs and the battery - all heat generated is lost energy. Letting it coast and only regen/braking at the last necessary moment should generally result in less heat being generated, which is less energy lost.

It is probably because eco mode relies on coasting to get more distance. If you increase regen, you basically cannot coast - as soon as you let up on the pedal, regen kicks in and starts to slow you down.
Also when you break notice that charging spikes. I think eco mode is modulating regen strength to break rather than relying solely on the breaks

I don't think they fold electrically because the car is so damn wide, they aren't really a problem sticking out.
And yep, regen setting is a PITA. BUT, I've just about learned to live with it muscle memory wise. And on my recent economy trip, I USED them. I drove in Auto mode, usually on ACC. Then when not, I used the paddles like shifters for "e-downshifting" (Yep, you heard it here first). Like closing in on a stop sign, bump it down a notch, then getting close, drop it down another e-gear, to slow to a stop(ish, you know... Dodge).
My first night with the car I spent 20 minutes looking for a "auto fold mirrors on lock" setting only to walk away and realize the damn fenders stick out further than the mirrors anyway.

Anyone else noticed that the Active Driving Assistant is pretty "wobbly"? I am coming from a Tesla, so have very high expectations because their tech is pretty stellar, but in the couple days I have had the car, I have had multiple instances where the car veers very close to the line separating the lanes and, in one instance, actually veered over the line. There was nothing about the conditions (road, visibility of markings, other drivers, etc) that I could see would have caused this.
Yeah, it's not the tightest I've driven. I'm coming from a Lyriq with supercruise and that would handle even sharper corners at high speeds, however, the Charger works everywhere, the Lyriq only worked on highways so it's a trade I'm willing to make.

I have an issue I don't see anyone else mentioning.

Every time I turn my car on, I have to manually turn the center screen on. It defaults to off, no matter what I try.

I've looked through the settings and can't find anything that would affect this. It's not dangerous or anything, just kind of annoying.

Also, wanted to check about an owners manual. The owners manual that came with my Daytona is only 50 pages, and is very skimpy on info. It doesn't even mention anything about the head up display at all.

I've seen some folks mention finding info on their owners manual on pages that mine simply doesn't have.

Did I get jipped and mine is somewhere at the dealership still? How large is everyone else's owners manual?
Did you find a solution to having to manually turn the center screen on every time you turn the car on? One of my driver profiles has this issue, but a second driver profile seems to work fine.

I'd just delete the profile and start over. I don't recall seeing that in settings or the manual

Unexpected software update!

On computers, phones and most things, when there is a software update available, with variability, the device usually asks if it can update immediately or wait for the evening. Managed devices (for work or school) follow policies that an organization comes up with for updates, and I'm sure most of us have been stuck at our computer waiting for an update happens at a lousy time. Sometimes if the software provider deems an issue extremely critical, it can push an update to our devices and will happen immediately, without our say in it: this is exceedingly rare, but it can happen.

Yesterday, after dropping off my kid at school, I climbed back in my car and was faced with my Daytona attempting a software update, and waited about 7 minutes for it to complete. No asking or anything! I found it to be a bit rude for it not to have asked to update first. Don't worry, I wasn't late, I just drove much faster to work to make up the time.

And then today my Daytona's Android system suffered its first crash, too! Happened shortly after startup: the radio that was playing paused and hung on a note and the display became totally unresponsive. Don't worry, I handled it with the classic IT Fix-It Special: I turned it off and on again!

Alright now I realize I should keep a microfiber cloth in my car.

I have a new problem I haven't seen mentioned yet. I have a 'stripper' model (Stage 1 R/T, no other options). As such, the trunk is manually opened/lifted after pressing the rubber button on the rear of the car. I drove my son 70 miles to college on Sunday and when we arrived, the trunk button was completely dead so we couldn't unload his stuff!

I had stopped at his dorm and exited the car with the fob in my pocket and the car still "running", so I got a triple-honk warning from the horn. I thought this might've triggered the glitch somehow, so I pressed the power button to "turn off" the car and tried again.. the trunk button was still dead. I thought maybe it was a passive keyfob signal issue, so I took the fob out of my pocket and held it in my hand while pressing the trunk button.. nothing. I also locked/unlocked the car using the fob to try to reset things, but that didn't work either. I tried forcefully pushing down and pulling up on the hatch to see if maybe there was a sensor switch that needed tweaking.. nothing. Finally, we gave up and dragged his stuff out through the folded-down back seat, which was pretty ridiculous.

There is no backup for opening the rear trunk. No button on the cheapo keyfob - no button inside the car. I have no idea if you folks with non-stripper cars have a backup entry method, but I haven't found one.

I drove 70 miles home and before plugging in the charger, I hit the trunk button to see if it worked.. the first 3-4 presses did nothing, then suddenly the button started working again. It's worked fine ever since. My dealer has no ideas.
I've had the same issue happen the first weekend I had it. Hasn't happened since, knock on wood. Maybe the key has to be moved a certain distance away to reset the passive trunk function?

Yesterday, TURTLE MODE popped up on the lower bottom left side of my dash! I was limited to a maximum of 15 to 20 miles per hour. Very odd feeling being limited to 15-20 miles per hour in 45 mile per hour traffic! I had to immediately pull over out of traffic and turn my vehicle OFF for a few minutes and back on. My understanding is that TURTLE MODE prevents the motors from over heating.

WTF is GOAT mode on a Dodge? That's Ford's Goes Over Any Terrain
