Same issues here. Ive had it less then 3 weeks Taking it in tomorrow after trunk and soc light problems. I have no confidence that ill be picking it up any better.
We would like to see how we can possibly assist while your vehicle is at the dealership. Our team has contacted you directly and we look forward to your follow up.

Months later, they are still clueless on how to fix the trunk issue. I have found success in going into the car and pressing the Vehicle On/Off button 5 or 6 times, then going back to the trunk and it opens again. I have to explain this silly procedure to anyone who borrows my car.

Was your issue fixed? If yes, can you please share with us? I got my car one month ago and it just happened. I went to the market and put the bags in the trunk. When I got home, it would not open. Had to get the groceries by lowering the back seat

As expected I have been told that the trunk/hatch not opening is how it works. They told me you only get 3 to 5 opens per ignition cycle. I think it happens even on the first try if drove any distance. My 08 charger has three ways to open it. Why would they not put a way to open from the inside. Im hoping there is some way out of this lease.

They did, but only as part of a package. It would be on the ceiling console between overhead the lights. But I agree, they should have included it on all trims, it should be considered a basic necessity.

Hi everyone, just wanted to pop in and let you know that we are aware of this issue and are currently working on an update to address it. In the meantime, if there is anything we can help with, please feel free to send us a message.

@DodgeCares has this been addressed? Having the same issues. Turning the engine off and on does not work. Locking and walking the key out of proximity does not work. The only way to get the trunk open during one of these episodes is to turn the ignition off, place in Accessory mode and turn off again. The trunk latch will then release with the button.

Congrats on the new Charger Daytona—glad to hear you're enjoying it! As for the trunk issue, you're not alone. A few owners have reported similar problems with the trunk randomly getting stuck. Sometimes it's an issue with the electronic latch or the alignment of the trunk lid. A quick trick that’s worked for some is holding the trunk button on the key fob a bit longer or pressing it twice in quick succession. If that doesn’t help, it might be worth having the dealer check the latch mechanism or reprogram the trunk release. Let us know if you find a fix

Neither of those tricks worked for me but I will mention it to the dealer when I take it in. Truthfully, there are so many bugs that I'm trying to wait until I absolutely HAVE to take it, in the hopes that all of the kinks have fixes found so it can all get done at the same time! :ROFLMAO:

I’m jumping in here because I’ve been seeing the same trunk button failures on my new 2025 Charger Daytona R/T (manual liftgate), and what I’m experiencing doesn’t line up with what I could find as having been previously reported via STAR case S2523000037 (https://static.oemdtc.com/NHTSA-PDFs/MC-11017404-0001.pdf ).

That case says the BCM limits you to 3–5 hatch releases per ignition cycle, and that things should reset once you cycle the ignition or the car goes to sleep. In my car, though, the button often fails on the very first attempt after parking, with no prior opens that drive, and simply turning the ignition off and back on doesn’t consistently fix it.

I’ve already been back to my dealer (Bud Clary CJDR in Kent, WA), and so far, their approach has been to "educate me" rather than treat it as something that needs real diagnosis. That hasn’t been a productive path. I’d really like to get a Customer Care case open that’s tied to my VIN so there’s a record and escalation path and potential to remedy.

Here are a few examples from the past week that show the mismatch with the official explanation:
  • 9/19: Opened the trunk once earlier in the day, drove home, parked. The button would not open the trunk even though it had only been used once that cycle. Cycling the ignition didn’t help; after eventually going into Drive and back to Park and shutting down again, the button started working.
  • 9/20 (video recorded): Parked, shut down, button failed immediately. Several OFF→ON cycles didn’t work. After two more full cycles, the button finally worked again.
  • 9/22: Twice in one day for the wife. Once it failed immediately after parking, and later it wouldn’t open after a 30-minute store visit. She had to load groceries through the back seat. It did work again once she got home.

To me, this looks less like a simple “too many opens” counter and more like inconsistent BCM state. It's disheartening that are references to this going back to pre-launch. Sleep and ignition cycles don’t reset it reliably. I’ve started a log with timestamps and videos, and I’m also testing different scenarios that have been mentioned here: disabling passive entry, turning off Android Auto, checking 12-volt battery levels (after I get a battery monitor installed, thanks for the videos), comparing ACC versus READY shutdown. Since it's the manual gate I don't have the option of trying the fob..

For @DodgeCares - what’s the best way to make sure a Customer Care case is opened, tied to my VIN, and escalated back to my dealer if needed? And are there any software updates in the works for the BCM or related modules that could address this?

For other owners — have any of you already opened a case, and if so, what was the outcome? Did it help your dealer engage or lead to a software update? If you’re seeing the same, it would also help to know your build date, whether you have the manual or power hatch, and if you’ve found a reliable reset sequence.

I’ll keep logging and will post updates as I try more combinations, so we can compare notes.

I would be quite upset if my dealer tried to play it off as 'normal' and that you just don't understand the car. There's a real problem and there is no real fix that sticks. My dealer, at least, was able to see the problem and experience it, but they aren't software engineers and can't fix Stellantis's incompetence. Instead, later unrelated software updates seemed to fix it for awhile.. then it came back later.

In my experience, the car will sit at the dealer for days/hours while they mess with it. They'll file a "STAR" case to get Chrysler involved. More time will pass, then they'll just give up. Then the DodgeCares folks will leave you a voicemail saying if you don't call back within XX days they're going to automatically close out the case. Then the DodgeCares folks told me that if it wasn't fixed, I should complain to the dealer (like it's somehow the dealer's fault that Stellantis software is bugged). I told them it was THEIR job to talk to the dealer and help them fix it, not mine. Round and round we went until I just gave up.

I just toggle the ignition button a dozen times (usually with some degree of anger and hammering it pretty hard, if I'm honest) and it eventually gets the trunk functioning.

Thanks for the reply SackMonkey. I understand that frustration. I realize from reading more threads here that more serious issues seem to have gone unaddressed for long periods (months) and have had mixed success and needed to escalate things much further and longer and gone thru legal remedies. It's a real shock to someone who was so excited that an electric car that fit my family's lifestyle is finally in my driveway. In any case, I want to follow the process. I can have empathy for the dealers and service people, while still expecting a level of service and commitment to listening.

I did some more testing late into the night last night. I did have some success with the off -> ACC -> off method, at least in the case that I manually triggered the repro via multiple tunk opens in a row while parked. This reliabily worked both while on and off the level 2 charger, phone Bluetooth off, proximity sensor off
I fear that it won't work when hitting other scenarios like the single-press right after stopping or the broken-on-return-to-idle car as the BCM may be in different states. But it's worth a try I need to try these out before my wife does, else I worry she will put the groceries through a broken back window lol
